Brendan Onishchenko: A True Partner On and Off the Court

Every once in a while, you come across an athlete who stands out not just for their talent, but for their character. Brendan Onishchenko is one of those rare individuals.

I first met Brendan when he was just 16 years old, playing indoor club volleyball alongside my son. Even at that young age, there was something different about him. He was incredibly well-mannered, respectful, and carried himself with a level of maturity that stood out. What impressed me most wasn’t just his skill—it was how naturally he connected with others. Brendan took the time to work with younger players, encouraging them, guiding them, and making them feel included. That kind of leadership isn’t taught easily—it’s part of who he is.

And even back then, you could see it—he looked like a beach volleyball player playing indoor volleyball. There was a fluidity, a presence, and a style to his game that hinted at where he truly belonged.

Fast forward to today, and Brendan has grown into not only a strong athlete but an exceptional partner on the beach volleyball court. He brings a level of humility that is refreshing in competitive sports. No matter the situation—whether winning, losing, or grinding through a tough match—Brendan stays positive. That positivity is contagious. It lifts his teammates, steadies the game, and creates an environment where success can grow.

That mindset and consistency showed in a big way in 2025, when Brendan teamed up with Phil Dalhausser to win the 2025 Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament Men’s Open division. Competing at that level—and winning alongside one of the sport’s most accomplished players—speaks volumes about Brendan’s growth, composure, and ability to rise to the moment.

As a partner, Brendan is someone you want by your side. He communicates, supports, and always brings energy that builds others up. He doesn’t just play the game—he elevates it for everyone around him.

More importantly, Brendan is simply a great person. His character, attitude, and respect for others make him stand out far beyond the court. In a world where talent often gets the spotlight, Brendan reminds us that who you are matters just as much as how you play.

It’s been incredible to watch his journey from that thoughtful 16-year-old in the gym to the positive, humble, and reliable partner he is today. Brendan Onishchenko represents everything you hope to see in an athlete—and even more so, in a person.
